This Layered Taco Dip is a surefire crowd-pleaser that’s jam-packed with flavor. It’s a guaranteed hit at any potluck or family gathering.
I honestly could make a full meal out of appetizers. Gimme a little bit of this, a little bit of that… and a WHOLE PLATE of this stuff, right here. Similar to the 7-layer dip I grew up noshing on at parties, this version swaps the refried beans for taco meat and adds extra oomph with cream cheese swirled into the sour cream. INGREDIENTS FOR THE BEST LAYERED TACO DIP:
Not only is this recipe super scrumptious, but it’s completely customizable and versatile! Below are my preferred layers, but feel free to get creative.
- 1st Layer: Cream Cheese and Sour Cream swirled together.
- 2nd Layer: HERDEZ Salsa Casera Medium (you could also do mild).
- 3rd Layer: Taco Spiced Ground Beef.
- 4th Layer: Shredded Romaine or Green Leaf Lettuce.
- 5th Layer: Tomatoes. Any type of tomatoes will work here. Just make sure to cut them into small pieces.
- 6th Layer: Minced Sweet Yellow Onion. You could also sub with green or pickled red onion.
- 7th Layer: Shredded Cheese. I always shred my own cheese and usually use Sharp Cheddar.
- 8th Layer: Garnishes. I personally prefer HERDEZ Avocado Hot Sauce, Black Olives, Jalapeño Slices and Cilantro Leaves.
Serve this with your favorite chips and you’ve got yourself a mouth-watering plate of goodness! We also serve this with a side of small flour tortillas in case someone wants to make themself a mini burrito.
WHY CHOOSE HERDEZ SALSAS AND HOT SAUCES:
We’ve purchased HERDEZ brand condiments for as long as I can remember. My personal favorite is their Guacamole Salsa, so when I heard that they made a Guacamole Hot Sauce I absolutely knew I had to give it a whirl. The flavor is unique, tangy and enhances any dish with a creamy touch of heat. I’ve been using it in sauces, dips, tacos and my homemade enchiladas. HERDEZ is the number one selling salsa brand in Mexico. If you’re looking to bring authentic flavors into your home kitchen, this is where it’s at.
HOW TO MAKE LAYERED TACO DIP:
- Bring the cream cheese to room temperature. Once thawed, beat the cream cheese and sour cream together in a small bowl until combined. Spread onto a serving platter or split among two plates and refrigerate for at least an hour.
- Brown the ground beef and then follow the instructions on the taco seasonings. Once fully cooked, spread onto a plate and place it into the refrigerator to cool.
- When you’re ready to serve, top the cheese layer with salsa, ground beef, lettuce, tomatoes, onion, cheese, and desired garnishes. Swirl a good amount of HERDEZ Avocado Hot Sauce around the exterior. Serve immediately with chips and mini flour tortillas.

NOTES ON THIS RECIPE:
- Make sure to allow yourself enough time for the cream cheese mixture and ground beef to cool. These two steps can be made up to a day in advance if needed.
- Mexican crema is a great alternative to sour cream in this recipe. If your local grocer carries this, I encourage you to try it!
- Don’t be shy with your ingredients. Other tasty toppers include shredded carrots, sliced radishes, avocado slices, black beans and so much more.
