Sweet Heat Dry Rub

July 27, 2014 By Jessica 12 Comments

My Sweet Heat BBQ Rub is ideal for adding flavor to any meal. From grilled chicken to roasted vegetables, universal dry rubs are a key ingredient in every kitchen. We make a large batch of this blend and keep it in our cupboard at all times.

Sweet Heat BBQ Rub

This all-purpose rub is simply phenomenal. It works flawlessly on my Slow Cooker Pork Carnitas, grilled peach salad, spaghetti squash burrito bowls, and can even be mixed with Greek yogurt as a party dip.

Feel free to customize my Sweet Heat Dry Rub to your own spice preferences.

I enjoy my dishes with a bit of a kick, so I’ll often up the cayenne pepper to two or three teaspoons when I’m feeling adventurous. Go ahead and swap ingredients where you feel fit… but I must mention that a key element to this recipe is the smoked paprika. It adds such a depth of flavor and complexity, so I do not recommend making this mix without it.

The culinary possibilities for this dry rub are endless. It’s sweet, yet spicy, encompassing a medium heat with the hint of brown sugar.

Hi Jess this rub recipe sounds great. Will this rub work ok on a eye of the round roast? Going to put the rub on tonight, wrap in Saran Wrap. Put roast on pellet grill in the morning for 3 hours, vacuum seal and sous vide.
    Thank you

Do you think I could put this mix in a food processor to make a better mixture and decrease the granule size for my homemade pork skins?

Hi. Would this be a good substitute for House of Autry’s Sweet Heat? Thanx for your response

I honestly have never tried that seasoning, so I couldn’t exactly tell you. Looks like theirs has celery seeds and cinnamon, which mine doesn’t. I hope you give it a try and let me know what you think! 🙂

I LOVE this spice blend on chicken… never thought about using it for smoking pork! I’ll have to try that. We do, however, use it for carnitas! So glad you enjoy it! Yay!
