The Best Date Night in Winston-Salem North Carolina

June 17, 2022 By Jessica Leave a Comment

Traveling to Winston-Salem North Carolina? Make sure to visit The Cardinal Hotel by Kimpton and The Katharine Brasserie & Bar. Gorgeous and super delish! We had an unforgettable evening.

Winston Salem North Carolina

With two young boys at home, my hubby and I rarely get a date night out. However, when we can… I do my best to make the most of it! Just a little over an hour drive from Charlotte, this hotel and restaurant will make you feel like you’ve escaped to a destination far, far away. Situated in the heart of downtown, they’ve got all the bells and whistles to make your evening feel extra special.

A FRESH TAKE ON SOUTHERN COMFORT:

Upon arrival, we were greeted by the front desk and offered ice tea. After quenching our thirst, we got situated in our room and relaxed a bit. It was a roomy space with a king bed, Frette linens, and luxury Atelier Bloom bath amenities. Perfect for a party of two.

We absolutely loved the decor. Art Deco flourishes, attention-to-detail in every nook and cranny. In the hallways it almost seemed like we were on a cruise ship… adventure awaiting! The guest rooms were decorated with North Carolina’s state bird, the cardinal, and embodied a modern “southern charm”. Built in 1929, the R.J. Reynolds building was actually inspired by New York City’s Empire State Building (insider fact: after our stay my hubby drove me straight to the airport for a business trip to NYC… so it was fitting!).

DEETS ON THE KATHARINE BRASSERIE & BAR:

After settling in, we ventured downstairs to have a much anticipated date night at The Katharine. My husband’s family owned a French restaurant for 30 years, which he actually worked at, so we were super excited to see what French traditions the chef had on the menu. We sat at a little corner of the restaurant where we could observe the hustle and bustle. It’s a beautiful space with the most amazing staff. Ryan was our server, if you happen to meet him while you’re there please tell him we said hello!

WHAT WE ATE AND HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Hors D’oeuvres: We immensely enjoyed the Tartare De Filet De Boeuf. Minced beef tenderloin tartare, sous vide egg, espelette aioli, cornichons, grain mustard, pickled shallot, and charred crostini.

Salad Course: Caesar is always a favorite of ours, so we opted fo that. Hearts of romaine, herbed croutons and anchovy filets.

Entrée For Him: Steak Frites served with lemon arugula, horseradish & honey crème fraiche butter and truffle fries.

Entrée For Me: Poulet Au Poivre Flambè, which is a pepper and pan-seared half chicken smothered in a cognac mushroom cream sauce served with herbed fingerlings, arugula, roasted garlic and Bordeaux poached shallot.

Dessert: A glass of red wine is our fav to finish the evening, and then we shared the Pot de Crème made with dark chocolate, caramel, crème fraiche, smoked Malden sea salt and topped with chocolate ganache.

OUR OVERALL EXPERIENCE:

We seriously had the best time, and I can’t wait for us to go back. The staff was accommodating, the food was memorable, and there’s lots to venture around downtown after dinner! A wonderful hotel & eatery in the city… a gem that shines in every way. If you happen to swing by, tell them Jess sent you!
