The 29th location of City Barbeque is set to open on Monday, February 27th at 10:30 am. This will be their second location in the Charlotte Region and certainly not the last! They plan to also open restaurants in the University Area (3rd location) and Huntersville (4th location). Here is my recap of their media preview event.
Each City Barbeque is designed and modeled with their General Manager to create a unique atmosphere that you’ll only find at that restaurant’s location. Meet Shane Wolfe {the GM} and his wife Jessica.
Shane is from Belmont and has a special place in his heart for antiques. His love is showcased throughout the store with vintage license plates, distressed signage and various maps on the walls about Charlotte’s history.
Oh, and see that pig outside? Her name is Pigalicious and she is a unique addition that you will only find at Shane’s City Barbeque. Make sure to stop by and say hello to her on your way in.
2018 Update: Shane parted ways with City BBQ. Monroe-native Matt Chaney took over and is continuing to honor his NC roots as the Pitmaster and manager of food quality across all four Charlotte-based locations.
There’s one rule at City Barbeque: Everything must be made from scratch on a daily basis. Nothing is bagged, processed or boiled and there are no microwaves or walk-in freezers. They do, however, have one small freezer for 2 great reasons:
- Peach Cobbler taste better with frozen peaches…. so they freeze their peaches.
- All excess products that are not consumed during operating hours are placed in that freezer and donated to a local food rescue each night.
Eat Good ~ Do Good ~ Give Back
Now let’s chat a little about their food… First and foremost, I must mention that I tried the Best Brisket I’ve Ever Had during their media preview. All of their meats are smoked “low and slow” with Carolina Hickory between 13-20 hours; or until they are fall-off-the-bone-fantastic.
This is Christian, he is a trainer at City Barbeque and has a serious obsession with that Brisket I mentioned above. City Barbeque flies him all over the county so he can share his passion for their melt-in-your-mouth Smoked Meats and helps train employees. He’s been with the company for 6 years and is loving every minute of his career.
Some of their most popular menu items include:
More Cowbell:
Brisket topped with Pepper & Onions, Smoke Provolone and creamy Horseradish Sauce; piled high on Grilled Texas Toast. {Mic Drop.}
Smoked Turkey Salad:
National award-winning Smoked Turkey, Spring Mix, Cucumbers, Tomatoes, Cheese, Onions and Cranberries.
Lo Lo’s Pulled Pork:
Marinated in Swine Wine and topped with Creamy Coleslaw.
Baked Beans with Brisket:
This recipe took 14 YEARS to perfect. In my opinion…. They nailed it!
Judge’s Sampler:
Enough for two! 1/4 Chicken, 1/2 Slab Ribs, Pulled Pork, Full-Cut Brisket, 2 sides, 2 Cornbreads and Texas Toast. Holy Moly… Dinner is served.
Because some like it saucy….
{I’ve tried them all and they’re FABULOUS}
