Have you ever seen that mom at the farmers market with her perfectly behaving child who allows her to peruse through the vendors and carefully pick her bounty for the week? Yeah, me neither. I’ve ventured out to the market with our son in the past, and it either turns into a game of tag or a “how many tomatoes can I throw on the ground before mommy catches me?” scenario. So when I was approached by The Produce Box to try their services, I immediately jumped on board.
I opted for the Harvest Box, which comes with their most popular fruits and vegetables. Most of their boxes are designed for a 3-4 person household and even come with eating guidelines and recipe cards. There were plenty of interesting items in this package, but I have to say that the Zsa Zsa Peppers grabbed my attention immediately, as I have never had them before.
In this post, I’m featuring a twist on the traditional Korean recipe for Bulgogi. Instead of using thin slices of sirloin I used ground turkey, making this a budget-friendly alternative. I also added some locally grown, sautéed vegetables into the mix. This creates a deeper depth of flavor and adds a pop of color.
Oh, and they’re good for you… so why not.
This recipe couldn’t be easier to make. Added Bonus: we only used one pan with one cutting board, so cleanup is super quick. The cooking process only takes about 25 minutes, and if you pair it with some instant White Rice you can have dinner on the table in less than an episode of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.
We start off by adding a small amount of oil to our wok. Sauté the vegetables for 5-6 minutes, or until tender. If you don’t own a wok, you can also use a large frying pan.

After the vegetables are cooked to your liking, add the Ground Turkey and Korean Sauce. Sauté for about 10 minutes, until meat is fully cooked.
For serving, place White Rice on a plate and top with Korean Turkey. Garnish with fresh Basil and eat immediately. To make the meal complete, we ate ours with toasted Pita Bread, Greek Yogurt and Sriracha.
Ingredients:
For the Wok:
- 3 Zsa Zsa Peppers, chopped
- 2 small Cubanelle Peppers, chopped
- 1/2 Red Onion, sliced & chopped
- 1 pound Ground Turkey (93% Lean / 7% Fat)
- Olive Oil, as needed
Note: You can substitute the peppers for whatever peppers you have on hand. These are the ones that came in my Produce Box so that’s why they are used here.
Korean Sauce:
- 2 tbsp. Brown Sugar
- 2 cloves grated Garlic
- 1 tsp. freshly grated Ginger
- 1/4 cup Liquid Aminos
- 1 tsp. Sriracha (add more/less to your heat preference)
- 2 tbsp. Pomegranate Molasses
Note: If you do not have Pomegranate Molasses, you can substitute Balsamic Vinegar.
Serving Suggestions:
- Fresh Basil
- Sriracha
- Toasted Pita Bread
- Greek Yogurt (optional)
Directions:
- Whisk together all ingredients for the Korean Sauce in a small bowl.
- Cook White Rice according to packaged directions. We used instant White Rice but you can also use regular white rice or brown in this recipe.
- Heat Olive Oil in a wok or large frying pan over medium-high heat. Add vegetables and stir fry for 5-6 minutes.
- Add Ground Turkey and Korean Sauce. Sauté for 10-12 minutes, or until meat is fully cooked.
- Serve immediately over rice and garnish with fresh Basil.
Leftover Idea:
We had about 1/3 of the Korean Turkey leftover. The next day, we created incredibly delicious sandwiches using more vegetables from our Produce Box. Simply serve on toasted bread with Mayo, Heirloom Tomato Slices and Lettuce.
